Lake Koon Fishing Pier and Kayak Launch
A pier that everyone can access.
At Lake Koon in Cumberland, Maryland, Ohney was given the opportunity to develop an Americans with Disabilities Act-approved dock. “A first for Ohney, we had to modify the design from our original models to accommodate specific features,” says Paul Yarnell, Business Developer at Ohney. This meant adding several modifications to ensure the dock was ADA approved. Elements included a specialized handrail, an anti-slip dock surface and a gauge that constantly measures the changing incline based on water level. “We’re very proud because members of the community who weren’t able to fish or enjoy the lake because of disabilities now have the opportunity to do so,” says Yarnell. The dock was opened to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 13, 2011.
